Symptoms - Upper / Right sided abdominal pain with or without indigestion, flatulence, acidity. Pain radiating to the back towards the shoulder blades. Yellow discolouration of the skin, urine ( jaundice )
Diagnosis - The above symptoms could be due to gall stones.
You need to see a doctor who will possibly ask for an Ultrasonogram of your abdomen.
If the diagnosis gets confirmed that you have gall stones, the you will need to see a surgeon who will examine you and order other necessary investigations to consider your gall bladder surgery. Laparoscopic gall bladder surgery is now the gold standard. However open surgery could still be needed at times depending on the clinical scenario or if laparoscopy fails.
In addition if you have stones in the bile duct, then you may be referred to a gastroenterologist, who will possibly carry out an ERCP to clear the bile duct before your gall bladder surgery.
